Isaac Hayes

Welcome to 5th Element Radio's Blog! My name is Nik Quarnstrom and this is my first post on this blog. Our goal for this show is to play some great Hip Hop and the music that inspired the producers to create their tracks. It is very popular to sample genres such as funk, jazz, soul, reggae. One Artist in particular that I would like to inform you about is Isaac Hayes. Many people know him as "Chef" from the TV show South Park, but before he landed this role he was a very successful musician who's works have inspired many producers who create sample based hip hop tracks. Isaac Hayes was born in rural Covington, Tennessee on August 20th, 1942. He later moved to Memphis where he sang in his church quire and played saxophone for this school band. He released his first album in 1968 and went on to release 22 studio albums, 3 live albums, and helped create 5 movie soundtracks. His music has been incredibly inspirational to hip hop. His style of sound and beats used back in the late 60's are still used in hip hop to this day, but were more prevalent in the 90's and early 2000's. Iconic names in hip hop such as Gangstarr, 2pac, Eric B, Rakim, Dr. Dre, Wutang Clan, DJ Quik, Jay-Z, Biggie, Public Enemy, The Geto Boys, and Compton's Most Wanted have all sampled Isaac Hayes music in their works. He has been a huge influence and contribution to the growth of music. If you have some free time I highly recommend listening to his "Hot Buttered Soul" album released in 1969. Thanks for reading and remember to tune in to KSFSmedia.net/radio on Thursdays at noon to listen to 5th Element Radio.
