Netflix Gem: Drugstore Cowboy
Welcome to 5th Element Radio's blog. This is Nik Quarnstrom again bringing you my first Netflix Gem blog. On our radio show we do a segment called Netflix Gems where we discuss movies that we enjoy and are available on Netflix. In this day and time college students do not have money or enough time to dedicate to going to the movie theater and we all know Netflix is a popular alternative to watching all the movies you love. Netflix offers a great selection of movies including one of my favorite titles of all time, Drugstore Cowboy. This movie was released in 1989 and was directed by Gus Van Sant. The star actors are Matt Dillon, Heather Graham, William S. Burroughs, and Kelly Lynch. This story is based off the autobiography written by James Fogle. This story takes place In Portland Oregon and along the Pacific Northwest. The story revolves around 4 drug addicts who rob pharmacies for their prescription opiate drugs. They use these drugs to finance their journey and to more importantly get their fix. Bob (Matt Dillon), is the leader of this crew and is a very interesting character. He is very superstitious and strongly believes in hexes. He believes in them to the point where they effect what he does in his life. The story is narrated by Bobs very poetic thoughts around his views on his life. The movie has great aesthetic production and amazing shots through out the whole film. If you have access to Netflix and a couple of free hours this is a must see.
